When Melissa McArthur moved to London, she brought with her the warmth and sun-kissed, easy life feel of her native Australia. Her jewelry collection evokes exotic destinations and wearing it makes you feel one step closer to the beach.
It’s obvious Melissa loves gems and pearls – her atelier is overflowing with a mind-boggling offering of treasures she selects from small vendors and far away markets. Her desire for simplicity is inspired by architecture and modernist design. She loves to dissect her favourite architecture, applying the concepts of positive-negative space to the female form.
Baroque pearls and raw cut aquamarines sit asymmetrical on a spring-like torque necklace that just wraps around your neck with no clasp or chain. Intertwined silver or gold circles on a chain can be worn multiple ways to suit your mood and outfit – long, short, wide, thin – you are in control. Thin rings allow for stacking in all the rainbow colors. Bangles want to dangle and jingle at your arm.
A graduate of Central St Martin’s College of Arts and Design followed by collaborations with prestigious institutions such as the V & A museum is enough pedigree to convince us that she is the kind of designer we want in our jewelry box.
