PARIS & PROVENCE, FRANCE
Inspired by Nature
Nature’s infinite power and beauty has inspired artists since times immemorial. Painters, sculptors, writers, photographers, potters, ironmongers, glass blowers… and of course jewellers. From the butterflies of Rene Lalique to the birds of Van Cleef & Arpels, the snakes of ancient Greeks, the flowers of Miriam Haskell or the leaves of Francis Mertens, there isn’t a period without a reference to nature.
For 8 days we will forget all about our life on screens and in virtual reality to rediscover the grounding and cleansing power of nature both in urban and country settings. Through workshops, lectures, gallery visits, ateliers and boutique escapades in Paris and Provence, we will experience first-hand the inspirational power of nature.

JUNE 6TH - 10TH
The first part of our trip will unfold in Paris with many unforgettable experiences.
Nature’s first gift to jewellers is its precious stones. A class at l’Ecole Van Cleef and Arpels' will make almost gemologists of us: color, shapes, origins and history will be covered by one of the maison’s expert gemologist.
The splendour of Versailles and its gardens: Marie-Antoinette was crazy about nature and had a mini farm in Versailles. Her floral style inspired Dior (remember our visit of the Dior exhibit in Paris in 2017?) and we are privileged to be granted access to some of her apartments.
Time is nature’s second gift to jewellers – and they have tried to tame it forever. An atelier visit of an horloger will reveal all the secrets of time keeping and how to “capture” it.
Dinner at Michelin star restaurant and other iconic gathering places will cap each of our Parisian days.
JUNE 10TH - 14TH
Provence is our next destination.
We will be based in Aix-en-Provence. With its ochre buildings and shaded boulevard, Aix-en-Provence has a slow and soft ambiance that invites reverie.
Marseille, a vibrant, multicolored and diverse Mediterranean port, is the home to a multitude of jewelry artists with ateliers dotted around the pedestrian streets of the old city. The proximity of the sea and the back hills of Provence imbue their practice – colors, shapes, materials are all rooted in the Provençale environment.
Not to be missed is the MUCEM (Museum of European and Mediterranean Civilizations), suspended between the sky and the water, floating at the entrance to Marseille's Vieux Port. Inspired by the Mediterranean horizon, the color blue in all its shades, the ebb and flow of history, it overlooks the open sea and seems to unite its two shores.
And then there are the villages of Provence, of local stones and clay shingles, with shaded terraces and colorful markets where you will sample the freshest of local produce. Artisans and craftsmen find refuge in the villages, away from the fast pace and noise of urban centers – but they always welcome visitors who take a genuine interest in their artistic endeavour.
Provençale cuisine is legendary for the richness and depth of its flavours and freshness of its produce. All will be amply sampled and enjoyed during our trip.
